BERLIN -- A family fun event held every year that enables the East Holmes Fire personnel to get out and meet the community it serves -- that's the idea behind the annual East Holmes Firemen's Festival, to be held Saturday, July 15, beginning at 4 p.m. on the grounds of Berlin Elementary School.

Amherst man denies writing bad checks

MILLERSBURG -- An Amherst man recently denied charges he wrote several checks on a closed account to a local business. Daniel D. Bowen, 35, of 371 Long St., pleaded not guilty to one count of theft and four counts of passing bad checks. If convicted, he faces up to three years in prison.
