Timothy's Gift to perform in Millersburg
MILLERSBURG -- Nashville, Tennessee based gospel band Timothy's Gift will perform a free concert at Martins Creek Mennonite Church in Millersburg on Sunday, May 7. The group is known nationally for its prison ministry work and is the brainchild of Holmes County resident Ron Miller.
Several years ago Miller was watching a Dateline NBC story about Timothy Kane, a teenager who was tried and convicted of murder charges in Florida at the age of 14 in 1998. Kane was present during a home invasion involving two older boys who committed murder during the invasion. Kane was sentenced to a life sentence without the option of parole for 25 years.
Soon after watching the show, Miller began corresponding with Kane and a friendship began. Kane turned his life around in prison and was the inspiration for the creation of Timothy's Gift prison ministry. Through music and ministry, the group visits prisons in an effort to remind every man and woman they have value and self-worth and that people love and care about their well-being.
"The Martins Creek concert will be the same program we present in our ministry," said Miller. "We invite everyone to come and worship and help us reach out to a community of people whose hearts are ready for something awesome." Timothy's Gift features vocalists Melissa Greene and Melinda Doolittle. Greene is a former member of the Grammy nominated group Avalon. Doolittle was a finalist on American Idol and the group was featured on NBC's "The Sing Off."
The concert is free, open to the public, and scheduled for 6 p.m. For more information. visit www.timothysgift.com.
