Hiland is appearing at the girls state basketball tournament later this week. The Hawks will be bringing the Div. IV Player of the Year and Coach of the Year with them.
Angela Troyer, the Hawks' do-it-all senior, was named Player of the Year and Hiland's 26-year head coach Dave Schlabach was tabbed Coach of the Year as the Associated Press released its All-Ohio team for the small schools in Div. IV.
The 5-foot-9 Troyer is averaging 16.2 points a game for Hiland, along with 6 rebounds, 3.5 steals and 2 assists per game. She's a big reason the Hawks will carry a 26-1 record and the AP regular season poll championship into Thursday's semifinal with Ottoville for Schlabach, the veteran mentor who now stands at 582-89 for his storied career.
Troyer's teammate, 5-6 junior guard Kennedy Schlabach, was a second-team selection. Schlabach, averaging 14.3 points and 6.4 assists, has his 90 3-pointers at a 47-percent clip.
Making the third team were Hiland's Morgan McMillen and Dalton freshman Makenna Geiser. McMillen, a 5-9 junior, leads the Hawks with 17.3 ppg along with 5.9 rebounds a game, while the 5-8 Geiser helped Dalton to regionals with her 16.2 points and 4 assists a game.
Elizabeth Breckbille, Central Christian's 6-3 senior who averaged 10 points and 15 rebounds, was a Special Mention pick, while Dalton junior Kirsten Shoup (10 ppg) and Central senior Talia Miller (10.1 ppg) were named Honorable Mention.
