Penny Adkins enjoyed the ride of her life on Sunday afternoon. Escaping her room at LifeCare Hospice for a few hours, Adkins, who has cerebral palsy and was recently diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer, rode shotgun in a Polaris Slingshot, driven by hospice nurse Doug Watson. They were joined by dozens of motorcyclists for a bike rally in support of Adkins, who has six months to live. The ride began at the American Legion in Holmesville, swept through Holmesville and Fredericksburg, then curled back around on U.S. 250 and State Route 83. Family and friends also held a 50/50 raffle, all proceeds benefitting Adkins.
